Dogs Currently Looking For Homes

TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ANY OF THE DOGS OR TO ARRANGE TO MEET THEM, PLEASE CALL JANE ON 07977 555238

Phoebe
3 Year Old Phoebe is thought to be a German Shepherd cross Collie. She is very friendly and good with other dogs and cats. She would like to live in a calm environment. Phoebe is lucky enough to be staying in a foster home in Buckingham. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee

Kimi

Kimi is coming into the trust because of a relationship break up. Kimi is a 4-5 years old Lakeland Terrier Cross, she is reasonably obedient and very affectionate, she is walked on a harness as she likes to hunt. She hasn’t lived with children and is a little nervous of children that she meets in the street if they are loud or running around. Having said that she can be quite playful so could live with older children that are sensible. Kimi hasn’t lived with cats. She is okay with some other dogs not all, will sometimes bark and was attacked by a dog in the past, although she would benefit from living with another dog if it was calm. We urgently need a foster home for Kimi until she can find a forever home

Buster
3 year old Buster is a very loving and content dog with great enthusiasm for walks and playing outside but settles quickly and will lay quietly around the house, quite content with his own company.Buster loves EVERYONE. His tendency to play does get the better of him so would needs to be homed either alone or with a dog who already has good training and boundaries. Buster although a joy, rarely follows basic commands and pulls on the lead but has already made an improvement and would learn quickly with someone consistent and firm with the rules. Recall will need some work. Overall Buster is a beautiful dog who would fit into a family and be a perfect pet just the way he is but has the potential to be outstanding with a little training. Fully house trained. Sleeps in a crate overnight. Does not chew or dig! Plays ball and eats well.  Buster is good with children but doesn’t like cats.  He is lucky enough to be staying in a temporary foster home in Banbury, will need a new foster home or a forever home asap.  Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Archie

Archie has arrived at the Sanctuary after his family were unable to keep him. He is almost 3, good with children and other dogs and bearded dragons! He seems ok with the cats he has met at the Sanctuary. He knows his basic commands and is well behaved & friendly. Archie is lucky enough to be staying in a foster home in Towcester. Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee

Terry

Tapsy
Tapsy & Terry are both greyhound crosses, mother and son, 4 years and 16 months respectively, they previously lived with a cat although they don’t seem to like all cats, they have found leaving their home an upheaval so they are looking for a forever home together with no other pets or small humans. They are currently staying in boarding kennels near Spalding & would appreciate a foster home whilst they look for their forever home. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee

Cats Currently Looking for Forever Homes

TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ANY OF THE CATS OR TO ARRANGE TO MEET THEM, PLEASE CALL JANE ON 07977 555238

WE HAVE MANY MORE CATS NEEDING HOMES AT THE SANCTUARY

Tom & Jerry
Tom & Jerry are 18 month old brothers looking for their forever home. Tom and Jerry are absolutely fantastic and a pair of angels! They settled straight into their foster home. They are getting on well with the fosters own cats, although a little hissing with one of them. Tom is very affectionate and friendly, everytime anyone sits down he jumps on their lap for fuss and cuddles and is happy to share a lap with the fosterers own cat! Tom is very sociable, outgoing and curious. Jerry is a lot more shy than Tom, he likes fuss but will not sit on you but near you, he is not very sociable but gets on well with other cats. It was noticed that a dog barking on TV scared them both & caused them to dive behind the sofa, so a home without dogs would most likely suit them. They need to stay together as they snuggle up together and would be lost without each other. They are very good with children. Tom & Jerry are staying at the Sanctuary. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee

Babe
Babe arrived at the Sanctuary yesterday, she is 14 years old and a bit bewildered at the Sanctuary. She would appreciate a quiet home with no children. It is a bit much for her at the Sanctuary so it would be great if she could go to a foster home whilst she finds her new forever home.

Hetty

Hetty
Hetty (Wainthropp) is not very happy at the sanctuary and keeps herself to herself. Seems very sweet and just needs a calm environment to bring her out of her shell and have some attention. Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Midget

Midget is very pretty, good looking cat who does like attention but not happy around the other cats and can be a bit jumpy because of this. Midget would benefit from a calm environment- maybe the only animal and no young children. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee

Pippa
Pippa is only about 18 months old, possibly younger. She is very sweet, affectionate and good with other cats. She came in as a stray from Milton Keynes with 3 kittens and deserves a lovely home. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.

Pablo
Pablo has a really lovely personality and always comes to greet you.  Happy around other cats and seems good with dogs. Very happy and affectionate cat. Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Domino

Domino is a 4 yr old spayed female, friendly but not in your face. Fine with other cats, she is staying at the Sanctuary & looking for a forever home. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Obo

Obo, is black & 7mths old. Found dumped outside vets with other cats. All had dreadful flu and very thin, now back to full health. Very loving they never stop purring. Obo would like to be homed with another young cat & is lucky enough to be living with a fosterer in Daventry. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Dolly
Dolly is very pretty and full of beans, very playful & boisterous.  Can get a bit carried away out of enthusiasm and attention seeking rather than any sort of aggression. As soon as you open the door she is there looking for attention.  Tends to keep away from the main group of cats and tucks her self away but doesn't necessarily dislike other cats- I think she's just found her spot.  Not suitable to live with young children.  Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Nora
Nora is very sweet and loves a cuddle. Not shy in coming forward for a fuss and seems happy around the other cats.  Her and Pippa  make quite a pretty pair! Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Everdon

Everdon is a tabby boy. Believed to be 6/7years. Came in as a stray 1st Dec 2012 He is very loving although does tend to ‘pad’ somewhat. Will cope with a very quiet dog but does not seem that keen on other cats. He is lucky enough to be staying with a foster carer in Daventry. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Norman

Norman

Norman has been brought to us by the police - his owner has died and there is no family to take Norman. We have no further information on him at the moment, however he is extremely bewildered & would appreciate a calm home environment if anyone is able to offer him a foster home whilst he finds his forever home. He is currently at the Sanctuary. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Teddy

Teddy is very quiet but comes running out when offered treats! Very pretty cat who would love to be the centre of attention.  We don't think he was treated very well in previous life but still seems very loving though.  Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Smithy

Smithy is a real softy and lovely cuddly boy who seems fine around the other cats and happy to be fussed. Very handsome little face!  very sweet. Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Lady

12 year old Lady is looking for a new home, she has previously lived with 2 young dogs until her owners emigrated recently.  Lady is currently staying at the Sanctuary.  Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.

Ways To Support Algernon Trust

The Animal Sanctuary was set up over twenty years ago when the founder Jane Shepherd moved to Whittlebury near Towcester. In 1991 Jane arrived with just five feral cats, one fox and one rabbit. Today there are usually at least sixty cats, twelve dogs, plus foxes and assorted poultry in the Trusts care.  Jane also provides a wildlife rescue service 24hours a day 52 weeks a year. The Trust re-homes cats and dogs where possible but many of the cats Jane takes in are sick and/or elderly who need to remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their days. Currently there are over thirty residents. The Trust has become as much a hospice and retirement home for cats as a re-homing centre, and caring for sick and elderly feline friends puts an enormous strain on the Trusts finances.  Animals are taken in from a wide area not just from Northampton shire and adjacent counties but from all over the country.  The Trust has a strict “no kill” policy and Jane has no age restriction and has taken in cats over 20 years old.  All animals are neutered and micro chipped before being rehomed.

There are many different ways that you can support The Algernon Trust

Adoptions

Coffee

For those looking for a permanent new addition for your family, adopting a rescue pet gives that animal a new loving home.  Perhaps you aren't able to adopt yourself, however please do share details of animals needing homes, our website, facebook, twitter & blog are kept up to date with animals needing homes.

Fostering

Dolly

The Trust only has 4 kennels, all donated, plus the old ferret pen for emergencies.  Foster homes are relied on to provide temporary care for dogs awaiting a forever home, fostering an animal not only allows that animal to live in a family environment but also frees up space for us to help more animals.  The kennels are paid for by the Trust.  Foster carers make a huge difference, not only does this reduce the cost of boarding kennels but it enables the dogs to live in a home environment until such time that they find their forever homes, foster carers provide love and food for the dogs and the Trust provides support and also covers vets bills.

Volunteering

Jane relies on volunteers to help at the sanctuary with feeding and cleaning out all the animals and dog walking.  She has a regular team and is always in need of both regular helpers as well as those who are able to cover holidays & illnesses etc.

Fundraising

we currently have a fundraising co-ordinator in Milton Keynes which is a great support.  She has built up contacts in the Milton Keynes area and arranges to carry out a collection on average once a month which generates much needed funds for the Trust as well as raising awareness of our work”. We have a co-ordinator setting up in Northampton and Jane is now looking for volunteers to replicate this work in Banbury, Bicester, Aylesbury & Bedford, she says “I have a range of promotional material available for use during the collections and full support will be given to anyone in how to go about arranging collection”.

Fundraising events, pub quizzes, charity events, fairs etc are invaluable, if you are able to organise anything or have any other ideas - perhaps you could ask your local pub or club to hold a quiz night!

We try to attend as many local events as possible to raise much needed funds & to let people know about our work. Volunteering to run a stand for us allows us to attend more events, we provide merchandise and leaflets etc.  We often have to pay a booking fee so please be sure you are free on the date you volunteer for first!

These are the events we are currently looking for people to run a stand at please;

Banbury Show on 9 June in Spiceball Park 10:30-4:30 (suggest an hour either side for setting up & packing away)

Banbury Town Council's Summer Charities Bazaar on Sat/Sun 17/18 August 10-4.3

Collections

We are often offered pet items that are no longer needed by people, or people may want to donate food or other items brought from places other than Amazon.  It is really helpful for us if we can tell them a business or company not too far from them where they can take items they would like to donate.  If you own a business and would be prepared to collect items for us then please let us know & we will arrange a collection bin for you.  If you can think of a business local to you that you think may be interested in having a collection bin for us, then please do ask them for us!

eBay sellers can choose to donate a percentage of their sale to their selected charity & will receive a credit towards their seller fee for doing so.

Current Appeals

From time to time we have specific things we are fundraising for, please do look out for these & you can help us by letting your friends & family know!  Our current appeals are:

In April alone, the Algernon Trust took in 21 dogs, which is an unprecedented number. Being only a small Rescue this is a huge additional expense to cover along with the many cats and dogs already in their care.  Most of the animals are un-neutered, need vaccinating & micro-chipping, some have had general medical issues that have required veterinary treatment. This is of course in addition to the general day to day costs of feeding & housing the animals, so they are now desperate for funds. Without help, the Trust will have to turn away any animals needing rescue, many who may otherwise be put to sleep.

Donations would be very much appreciated & can be sent to The Algernon Trust Bank; Sort Code: 40-35-04; Account No: 02701081 or by PayPal to donate@algernontrust.org.uk (please select the gift option).

Some of the dogs rescued in April 2013 alone!

JJ now has a home!! We need help to raise the money to pay the remainder of JJs kennel cost, currently £130 remaining. The bank details for JJs appeal are - Co-op Bank: Sapphire Business Services Client A/c: 08-92-50: 68389569 with the reference – JJ or by paypal to lisa@sapphirebusinessservices.co.uk - please select the gift option & enter JJ in the notes
