Sooty on arrival!
Sooty after his initial trim!

Sooty is an adult Shih Tzu, he is around 7 & arrived into the care of the Algernon Trust recently. When he arrived, his fur was so badly matted he had to have the mats cut out under sedation and even had a harness matted into his fur. He has some behavioural issues so is staying in an experienced foster home where he is receiving training to prepare him for a forever home. He is making significant progress and we're very grateful to Sooty's fosterer as we're sure Sooty is! Sooty is now able to be handled carefully & is also fully integrated into the home, living happily with the foster carers own dogs & cat. Due to his issues, Sooty cannot be homed with children. The behavioural support will be provided in Sootys forever home. Sooty is staying in a foster home in Northamtpon. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee

Strays Prayer

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care!
I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.
My body is aching, it's so racked with pain,
and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain.
That someone will love me and give me a home,
a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.
... My last owner tied me all day in the yard
Sometimes with no water, and god that was hard.
So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away.
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold,
and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones,
while I run the streets just looking for bones!
I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can,
or I have become just a "Victim of Man!"
I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas,
and all that I want is an Owner to please!

If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good,
and I won't chew their shoes, and I'll do as I should.
I'll love them, protect them and try to obey....
when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay!
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own,
cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die.
And I've got so much love and devotion to give,
that I should be given a new chance to Live!
So dear God, please answer my prayer,
and send me someone who will REALLY care..

That is, Dear God, if YOU'RE REALLY there!

Spring Fair Sunday 12th May 2013 1-4 pm

Sunday 12th May 1-4pm - Reading Room, Whittlebury NN12 8XJ

Please come along and support us, Algernon Trust Rescue & Rehoming Sanctuary

The Animal Sanctuary was set up over twenty years ago when the founder Jane Shepherd moved to Whittlebury near Towcester. In 1991 Jane arrived with just five feral cats, one fox and one rabbit. Today there are usually at least sixty cats, twelve dogs, plus foxes and assorted poultry in the Trusts care.  Jane also provides a wildlife rescue service 24hours a day 52 weeks a year. The Trust re-homes cats and dogs where possible but many of the cats Jane takes in are sick and/or elderly who need to remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their days. Currently there are over thirty residents. The Trust has become as much a hospice and retirement home for cats as a re-homing centre, and caring for sick and elderly feline friends puts an enormous strain on the Trusts finances.  Animals are taken in from a wide area not just from Northampton shire and adjacent counties but from all over the country.  The Trust has a strict “no kill” policy and Jane has no age restriction and has taken in cats over 20 years old.  All animals are neutered and micro chipped before being rehomed.

Please help us to raise funds to continue our work helping domestic animals and wildlife

We will have stalls, childrens games, refreshments will be available incuding vegetarian & vegan options.

We have new merchandise available for the fair including the launch of our new wristbands & car stickers which will both be available for £2 each.

We will be launching our new competition & you can find the details first at the fair!

Following our new registered charity status you will now be able to gift aid your donations if you are a UK tax payer & we will have the forms available.

We shall have the dogs from the Sanctuary popping along to say hello throughout the afternoon too!

Please do bring a cake for our cake stall if you are able!  If anyone is free to help set up we will be there from 11am, help packing away after would also be much appreciated!

You can remind yourself by joining our facebook event! https://www.facebook.com/events/443049815764356/

We look forward to seeing you there!

Cats Currently Looking for Forever Homes

TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ANY OF THE CATS OR TO ARRANGE TO MEET THEM, PLEASE CALL JANE ON 07977 555238

WE HAVE MANY MORE CATS NEEDING HOMES AT THE SANCTUARY

Tom & Jerry
Tom & Jerry are 18 month old brothers looking for their forever home. Tom and Jerry are absolutely fantastic and a pair of angels! They settled straight into their foster home. They are getting on well with the fosters own cats, although a little hissing with one of them. Tom is very affectionate and friendly, everytime anyone sits down he jumps on their lap for fuss and cuddles and is happy to share a lap with the fosterers own cat! Tom is very sociable, outgoing and curious. Jerry is a lot more shy than Tom, he likes fuss but will not sit on you but near you, he is not very sociable but gets on well with other cats. It was noticed that a dog barking on TV scared them both & caused them to dive behind the sofa, so a home without dogs would most likely suit them. They need to stay together as they snuggle up together and would be lost without each other. They are very good with children. They are lucky enough to be staying in a foster home in Daventry. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee

Babe
Babe arrived at the Sanctuary yesterday, she is 14 years old and a bit bewildered at the Sanctuary. She would appreciate a quiet home with no children. It is a bit much for her at the Sanctuary so it would be great if she could go to a foster home whilst she finds her new forever home.

Pippa
Pippa is only about 18 months old, possibly younger. She is very sweet, affectionate and good with other cats. She came in as a stray from Milton Keynes with 3 kittens and deserves a lovely home. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.

Everdon

Everdon is a tabby boy. Believed to be 6/7years. Came in as a stray 1st Dec 2012 He is very loving although does tend to ‘pad’ somewhat. Will cope with a very quiet dog but does not seem that keen on other cats. He is lucky enough to be staying with a foster carer in Daventry. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Ginny is around 2 yrs old, very loving would love to be the focus of attention.  Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.
