Dogs Currently Looking For Homes

TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ANY OF THE DOGS OR TO ARRANGE TO MEET THEM, PLEASE CALL JANE ON 07977 555238

Dolce

This beautiful street dog, Dolce has been rescued from Northern Italy & will be travelling to England over Easter. She is approx 6/7, good with other dogs, we don't know if she likes cats or not & she will be looking for a new forever home when she arrives. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Pups Arriving With Dolce

These four girls will hopefully be making the journey to the UK shortly after Easter - we have very little information on them, if you are interested in potentially offering a home to any of them, please let uknow & we will get back to you :)

Mia

Mia is a small 15 months old Staffie bitch. She has lived with dogs, cats and children and is vaccinated, microchipped but has only just finished a season so can't be spayed until the end of May/ beginning of June. She is currently at the Sanctuary but will shortly be going to a foster home. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Archie
Archie is 8 months old and not housetrained. He is entire, possibly a Patterdale or crossbreed terrier. Archie is excellent with dogs, cats & humans. Archie walks fairly well on lead and is good off lead. The lady who took him on from an elderly lady who had dogs cats and a parrot wasn't told Archie hadn't been housetrained and she works so doesn't have the time for training. He is good with her dogs and cat and her sons who are teenagers. She says he's very bright so we'd expect him to learn quickly. He needs castration, that would probably help. He may already have had three or four homes. Archie is very affectionate and needs an understanding home. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.

Pepsi

Pepsi is a Westie x Jack Russell, 4 yrs old, not yet neutered, good dogs but not known cats, his elderley owner has had him since a puppy, she is disabled and moving into small flat, Pepsi is at this time looking for a foster home.

Meg
Meg recently came into the care of The Algernon Trust severely under weight & with a broken tooth. After much TLC in foster care, her condition is considerably improved and she is now looking for her forever home. She would like not to share her humans with any other pets & would really like to live in a quieter environment. Meg is lucky enough to be staying in a foster home in Daventry. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

Quincy
Quincy will be arriving at the Santuary Easter Saturday. The vets estimate his age to be between 3-5. Quincy is friendly, well behaved, good with dogs but would be best living with a bitch. We don't know how he is with cats or children but he would prefer a quiet home without small children. He is underweight but appears to be in fair health with no signs of abuse. Quincy doesn't like the cold so needs to be in a foster or permanent home as soon as possible as the Sanctuary kennels are unheated. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee

Marley

Hi, I am Marley & I am around 18 months old. I was saved from being PTS in the pound & would really like to come & live with a family that I can grow up with. If you think that you would like me to live with your family, please let Jane know! Marley is currently at the santuary. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee

Dolly

Sweet Dolly is about 2.5 yrs old; spayed, vaccinated, chipped. Lovely affectionate Staffie x, seems fine with other dogs but not trusted with cats. Nothing is known about her former life. She does need a calm environment with no children or other pets where she can readjust to family life with someone who is willing to work with her to overcome her issues. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee.

JJ

Hi, I'm JJ. When I was a puppy I lived on the streets. It was scary and I was glad when I was found, I went to a place with lots of other dogs who also didn’t know where their humans were. Then I went to stay with Jane at The Algernon Trust, no-one had ever taught me to behave properly, like humans expect, so because I get very excited, I stay in boarding kennels where there are strong people until Jane can find some nice humans who will have the patience to teach me properly to live nicely in their home. I really hope that someone comes soon as I love humans and always try hard to make them happy! - A sponsorship scheme is available for those wanting to help with the cost of kennels. Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee

Logan & Raven

Logan & Raven are the victims of a marriage breakdown & are looking for a new home. Logan (taller dog) is 4; neutered, vaccinated, chipped, good dogs, kids, cats. Believed to be Saluki x greyhound. Raven is a Whippet cross, around a year old. She is good with other dogs, cats & children. Raven will be spayed prior to adoption Logan & Raven would like to be able to stay together in their forever home, in the meantime they are lucky enough to be staying in a foster home in Northamptonshire. Adoption subject to home check & adoption fee.

Sooty on arrival!

Sooty now!
Sooty is an adult Shih Tzu, he arrived into the care of the Algernon Trust recently. When he arrived, his fur was so badly matted he had to have the mats cut out under sedation and even had a harness matted into his fur. He has some behavioural issues so is staying in an experienced foster home where he is receiving training to prepare him for a forever home. He is making significant progress and we're very grateful to Sooty's fosterer as we're sure Sooty is! SOOTY ISNT READY FOR A FOREVER HOME YET

Sky

Sky & Belle are young staffy pups, brought as a Christmans present, they are now unwanted & considerably underweight. This is Sky, she will be staying in a foster home in Northampton until she has gained enough weight to be spayed ready for a forever home. SKY ISNT READY FOR A FOREVER HOME YET

Belle
Sky & Belle are young staffy pups, brought as a Christmans present, they are now unwanted & considerably underweight. This is Belle, she will be staying in a foster home in Leicestershire until she has gained enough weight to be spayed ready for a forever home. BELLE ISNT READY FOR A FOREVER HOME YET

Dolce & The Pups - Rescue Mission

We need help to get this beautiful street dog, Dolce and four abandoned pups (not Dolce's) from Northern Italy to England. Since this photo was taken her weight has dropped to 20 kilos. A friend of Janes in Italy has asked for help saving this girl and we are trying to arrange transport from Rome. She is an escapologist so we're using a secure animal transport company, Pet Chafeurs who go to Italy regualrly. We have raised funds to have her treated & rehabilitated in Italy (she has already been spayed) and now need to raise the final payment for the transportation over Easter. Please help if you can.

Donations will be very much appreciated and can be sent to The Algernon Trust Bank; Sort Code: 40-35-04; Account No: 02701081 or by paypal donate@algernontrust.org.uk - please select the gift option & quote Dolce

The pups when they were first taken to the vets

The English lady in Italy who is helping Jane's friend rescue the street dog was walking her dogs, she came across a box making noises and inside found 4 tiny puppies. Whisked them off to the vet. They are about 6/7 weeeks old-look, all females as whoever dumped them has probably taken the males. The vet has advised that they will have to go to the pound in Italy where they would certainly die! The vet has said that if we will take the puppies with Dolce, the street dog they will make no charge for vaccinating them & preparing their pet passports and the lady who found them will foster them until they are ready to travel. T

The appeal now includes transporting the four pups abandoned in a box Donations will be very much appreciated and can be sent to The Algernon Trust Bank; Sort Code: 40-35-04; Account No: 02701081 or by paypal donate@algernontrust.org.uk - please select the gift option & quote Dolce

Local Band 2 Twenty 2 Raise Funds for Algernon Trust

A local rock covers band, 2 Twenty 2 have raised £800 for The Algernon Trust!

The Animal Sanctuary was set up twenty five years ago when the founder Jane Shepherd moved to Whittlebury near Towcester.  As the Sanctuary grew over the years, and having exhausted all of her personal finances, the Algernon Trust was established in 2001 as a non-profit organisation in order to raise funds to keep the shelter going. In 1991 Jane arrived with just five feral cats, one fox and one rabbit. Today there are usually at least sixty cats, twelve dogs, plus foxes and assorted poultry in the Trusts care.  Jane also provides a wildlife rescue service 24hours a day 52 weeks a year.

The Trust re-homes cats and dogs where possible but many of the cats Jane takes in are sick and/or elderly who need to remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their days. Currently there are over thirty residents. The Trust has become as much a hospice and retirement home for cats as a re-homing centre, and caring for sick and elderly feline friends puts an enormous strain on the Trusts finances.

2 Twenty 2

2 Twenty 2 front man, Allan Phipps rehomed two dogs from Algernon Trust last year, he told the crowd “I was really moved by the work Jane does, at 65 years of age, she has run the Sanctuary for well over 20 years, for a long time she used her own funds, until they ran out & she began fundraising.  She receives no funding for the work she does and relies completely on donations. She has a strict no kill policy & helps a huge amount of animals”

Ways To Support Algernon Trust

The Animal Sanctuary was set up over twenty years ago when the founder Jane Shepherd moved to Whittlebury near Towcester. Animals are taken in from a wide area not just from Northampton shire and adjacent counties but from all over the country.  The Trust has a strict “no kill” policy and Jane has no age restriction and has taken in cats over 20 years old.  All animals are neutered or spayed and micro chipped before being rehomed.

There are many different ways that you can support The Algernon Trust

Adoptions

Coffee

Adopting an animal not only allows that animal to live in a family environment but also frees up space for us to help more animals.  Perhaps you aren't able to adopt yourself, however please do share details of animals needing homes, our website, facebook, twitter & blog are kept up to date with animals needing homes.

Fostering

Dolly

The Trust only has 4 kennels, all donated, plus the old ferret pen for emergencies.  Foster homes are relied on to provide temporary care for dogs awaiting a forever home, however often it is necessary to keep dogs at private boarding kennels to ensure they are not put to sleep when the Sanctuary is full.  The kennels are paid for by the Trust.  Foster carers make a huge difference, not only does this reduce the cost of boarding kennels but it enables the dogs to live in a home environment until such time that they find their forever homes, foster carers provide love and food for the dogs and the Trust provides support and also covers vets bills.

Volunteering

Jane relies on volunteers to help at the sanctuary with feeding and cleaning out all the animals and dog walking.  She has a regular team and is always in need of both regular helpers as well as those who are able to cover holidays & illnesses etc.

Fundraising

we currently have a fundraising co-ordinator in Milton Keynes which is a great support.  She has built up contacts in the Milton Keynes area and arranges to carry out a collection on average once a month which generates much needed funds for the Trust as well as raising awareness of our work”. Jane is now looking for volunteers to replicate this work in Northampton, Banbury, Bicester, Aylesbury & Bedford, she says “I have a range of promotional material available for use during the collections and full support will be given to anyone in how to go about arranging collection”.

Fundraising events, pub quizzes, charity events, fairs etc are invaluable, if you are able to organise anything or have any other ideas

Pet Insurance

Pet insurance can be confusing, there is an excellent article on Martin Lewis' Moneysaving

expert site which explains the different levels of cover & what to look out for when comparing prices

www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cut-pet-insurance-costs

We believe Pet Plan, whilst not the cheapest, offers a good level of cover, if you choose to insure with them, please do mention us as they send us a small reward :)
